New workshop venue sought

February 22nd, 2019

February 2019

I am sorry to say that what was our current venue has reneged on our agreement.

They asked for more than we could afford to pay and we were looking for a few venue, assuming they would honour the existing schedule.

Unfortunately, they do not observe such niceties. Posts for 2019have been deleted here in order to avoid confusion. As soon as there is any news it wil be announced here and via our emailing list

Good to see you all on Saturday.

I hope that you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.

All workshops at Tenderbooks 6 Cecil Court, London WC2N 4HE. 2 – 4 pm

Saturday 19 May 2018, 2 – 4 pm

Saturday 30 June 2018, 2 – 4 pm
Saturday 21 July 2018, 2 – 4 pm
Saturday 11 August 2018, 2 – 4 pm

As I explained, my sometime concentration on attendance is to make sure that it is worth the while of the chair to be there!

In that connection the May meeting looks viable, but no more; because I haven’t heard from everyone and would welcome a yes or a no where possible. Maybes are better than nothing

Responses re June July and August are also welcome if you haven’t let me know already

NB If you are not on the mailing list then we cannot let you know if arrangements are changed; and they sometimes are

Writers Forum – the future (February 2018)

The new venue is THE important thing; but there is much else; and I mean
apart from documenting recent history.
Everything else is on hold – publications, journals…
In the few hours between having a venue in Fitzrovia and being blamed for
the venue’s own incompetence, Matt Robertson and I began sketching out some exciting ideas; and I hope that we can build on that.
Pocket Litter, our print journal, will continue “as and when”. Web Pocket Litter is still an idea but should reach reality in the next few months. It should be straightforward; but I prefer to start something that continues.
Then maybe we can look at other projects.

Writers Forum – where we are now (February 2018)
Dear Friends, Writers Forum has a new venue. Another new venue.
This one seems to have been relatively easy to set up compared to the last
two! The last two took lots of time and came to nothing.
I say “seems” because the work has been done by Matt Robertson; so I
cannot *know how it went; but I trust to his ability. All glory to him.
Please be especially nice to him when you see him.
No joke.
The new venue, Tenderbooks, are being very generous with limited space
and we need to be considerate. Please!
There’s a considerable degree of playing it by ear, on both our parts.
PLEASE support us and them if you can. Let’s reward Tenderbooks with any
book orders we may have if possible.
I’m sending out this note before everything is completely tied up because I
know recent arrangements have been very rocky and I want to keep you as
enthusiastic as possible!
Hopefully there won’t be any changes

14 February 2018 # 1

February 15th, 2018

Dear Friends and colleagues
I apologise for my silence.
I have been quite unwell and have major problems with my laptop.
But I was complacent re wf because I thought I had let you all know the
situation; but, when I went through accumulated emails, I found that the last,
the important one, had bounced…. The system announced my message had
been sent; I logged out; an error message was then sent to my inbox!
The sitcom BlackAdder offers the line: “Life vomits on my duvet again”
I really hope that none of you had a wasted journey. I am very sorry for the
Also apologies to those who wrote inquiring about the meeting and had to
wait and wait for an answer. It does not look good; and I have – I had – tried
to keep up with inquiries
I shall explain in due course. For now I shall just say that a few hours after
confirming our 2018 bookings, only half a year after I asked, the “King and
Queen” pub cancelled the booking in arrogant and insulting terms.
My initial reaction was to give up. I remember I thought of Boxer in Animal
Farm. That may have been over the top.
Then I thought I would try again in a little while
There was a venue recommended to us. I sent an inquiry and thought to wait
for their answer. Then I wrote again. Now I have given up…
It wasn’t in a good location for most of our journeys.
NOW, we have a central location, thanks to work by our colleague Matt
I attach, with this note, details of the new plan. I hope you can attend.

New issue of “Pocket Litter”

November 14th, 2017

The launch of a web-based “Pocket Litter” is taking a little longer than anticipated.

In the meantime we are about  to publish “Pocket Litter November 2017”, edited by Matt Robertson and publishing poetry by himself, Lawrence Upton and Xavier Velastin, poetry which has been presented at the workshop.

Launch date is 25 November 2017.

It will be available in a limited hard copy edition for attendees at the workshop; and a pdf version which can be sent via email for those who cannot attend the 25 November meeting.

Thanks to Matt Robertson.
